Our experienced dentists may recommend dentures to replace your missing teeth. Dentures are removable oral appliances, and they are custom-designed to look and function like your original teeth. Dentures work to improve your ability to eat and speak, give you back a confident smile and restore your natural facial volume to improve your appearance.
There are two main types of dentures:
- Complete Dentures – Complete dentures are used to replace all the teeth in a dental arch. They may be used on both arches or on just the upper or lower arch, depending on your individual needs.
- Partial Dentures – Partials are recommended when you still have some natural teeth remaining. Partial dentures use a thin framework or clasps to attach to those remaining teeth and give your appliance a secure fit.
In addition to standard complete and partial dentures, implant-supported dentures and “immediate” dentures are also available. Immediate dentures are placed directly following the removal of teeth. An implant-supported denture is anchored in place with a few strategically placed implants, to which the denture is attached.
Your dentures are custom-made to fit your mouth and smile. Plan on having several appointments with our dentists so that we can ensure that your dentures fit and function properly. After you have received your denture, we will provide you with instructions on how to care for your appliance and keep it in good condition. When you return to our office for your regular dental exams, we will check your dentures as part of this exam in order to ensure that they function correctly and are in good condition. Please also be aware that your dentures will periodically require maintenance or repairs.
